At the base of Chu Prong Mountain on Highway 14C near Pleiku City, was one of the most famous battlegrounds of the Vietnam War. The movie We Were Soldiers recounts this moment in history. Thousands of soldiers died around this area. I didn’t know very much when I came here. I wasn’t too sure if I was in the exact location because I only had a picture of a map. But it turns out that it was indeed the right spot.

Weird! Air America Huey Helicopter Shot Down Two Vietnamese Biplanes By Firing An AK-47 Out The Door

On 12 January 1968, four North Vietnamese Air Force AN-2 Colt biplanes lifted off from an airfield in northeastern North Vietnam and headed west toward Laos. The aircraft were on a mission to destroy a US radar base that was guiding bombers in attacks against targets in North Vietnam.

The An-2 is used as a light utility transport, parachute drop aircraft, agricultural work and many other tasks suited to this large slow-flying biplane. Its slow flight and good short field performance make it suited for short, unimproved fields, and some specialized variants have also been built for cold weather and other extreme environments. Take Me Home – Huey

Contemporary artist Steve Maloney is partnering with Light Horse Legacy, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization supporting Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) veterans and a USA Vietnam War Commemorative Partner. They have provided him with a bone yard Vietnam Huey helicopter he will then transform into a fine art sculpture. It will travel to six national venues over the next three years to help bring awareness to all Veterans suffering with PTSD as well as honoring Vietnam Veterans for the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. Accompanying the art will be a short documentary film, a heartfelt song and a cutting edge website he commissioned that pays homage to this iconic war bird as a taxi from hell to heaven.
