Toby was with our Batallion (1/22/4th ID) at Chu Moor in April 1968
Toby Van Skike was wounded while serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He never forgot the nurse who cared for him at the 71st Evacuation Hospital in Vietnam. His nurse, Frances Cappadocia, went on to serve as a nurse practitioner for the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years. Now, she has been diagnosed with a severe case of post-traumatic stress disorder and Alzheimer’s. Finally, in January, Van Skike found her.

I served with 1/22 as a Medical Service Corp officer with the Medical Platoon during the Chu Moor battle. I stayed in after Nam. I would attend courses at Fort Sam Houston, frequently visiting the “Pitt”, which was the Jr officers. The nurses also came to the club. I could instantly recognize those who served in Vietnam just by looking in their eyes.
