Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund – Reading of the Wall Names
By Charlie Shyab
In early fall I received the information that they were going to read the Wall Names for the 3rd time since the building of the wall. I have been supporting the fund for many years and also attending the ceremonies celebrating the lives of those who gave their all. So when they emailed me to know if I would be interested, I forwarded the info to Dennis Ziegler and when he told me that he was on board and he would be reading his brother’s name (Roger Ziegler) at 8:10 am I told him I had the 8:08 slot.

We arrived at 7:00 am to register and then went to the wall to present a flag and list to leave at panel 52/E where most of the Chu Moor KIA’S are listed.
We then took our seat to await our turn while others read the preceding names. We were directed to join the line 7:50 am to move to the platform. I went on at 8:08 am and stood by for him to read. Every time someone would read a name starting with Charles, I would expect them to follow with Shyab, but then I would come back to reality. Man!
When I read HOLLIS W. BUCK and JAMES R.CAMPBELL, I had to pause to keep my composure as they were men I knew. I saluted as we left the platform on our way to FT. Meade.
